Tasting Zone

As part of the Furmint & Friends tasting, wine experts from Weinwirtschaft evaluated Hungarian white wines across three categories. The primary focus was on single-varietal Furmint wines, Furmint-based blends, and, within the “Friends” category, other Hungarian white wines produced predominantly from indigenous, autochthonous grape varieties. The assessment was conducted using the internationally recognized 100-point scoring system, ensuring objective evaluation aligned with global quality benchmarks.

Another key thematic element of the Wines of Hungary Tasting Zone at ProWein 2026 is a professionally curated tasting led by Wein+Markt, with a particular focus on the Kékfrankos grape variety. Kékfrankos is one of Hungary’s most significant red grape varieties and aligns seamlessly with current international consumer trends. Its vibrant fruit profile, lively acidity, and elegant, approachable style make it especially appealing to younger generations of wine consumers.

This year’s Wines of Hungary Tasting Zone, therefore, places Furmint and Kékfrankos at the forefront, while also offering visitors insight into the broader spectrum of Hungary’s wine portfolio. The selection includes Olaszrizling, Bikavér, Hárslevelű, and several other defining Hungarian wine styles. In total, visitors will have the opportunity to taste more than 60 different wines, gaining a comprehensive overview of the diversity, quality, and innovative spirit of Hungarian winemaking.
